What is sea moss?Sea moss is a kind of algae or seaweed that is recognized by its scientific name, Chondrus crispus. It thrives in the waters between North America and Europe along the rocky Atlantic shores, it is an edible sea plant filled with many benefits. Sea moss can be found in different colors such as green, yellow, purple, brown, and black. Sea moss has been used as a food-thickening agent by various manufacturers for many years. It’s the only natural source of carrageenan, a thickener that’s used in all kinds of products such as ice cream, cottage cheese, toothpaste, non dairy milks, lotions and even baby formula.

Is Sea Moss safe to take?There are a ton of studies on the advantages of seaweed, the relative of sea moss, but not enough on sea moss particularly. Nevertheless, it is widely regarded as safe for foods, and its advantages are like those of other seaweeds. Consult your doctor if you have seaweed or sea food allergy, are pregnant or nursing. Sea moss and other seaweeds can affect some medications taken for underlying health conditions, such as kidney and heart issues.
